RACE PROBLEM 2010
We're coming to the part of TFA when whites arrive and begin to colonize Okonkwo's homeland. Considering past racism and oppression, do you think blacks deserve special treatment or acknowledgment? For example, do you think American blacks should get reparations (money paid as an apology for slavery)? Do you believe so-called "reverse racism" against whites is acceptable? How much of a problem is racism today?

Racism isn’t such a problem today because I think some people matured over the years. Even, though in places like Manhattan there are white people that still discriminate about black people. When you are walking with a group of your friends and you see white people start to guard themselves, white women holding their bags tighter to them. Black people should get more acknowledgements because white people try to dumb us down and under estimate us like nothing ever happened in our past. I don’t think money will make up for slavery because although we are black people, that would almost be like your taking money for people that worked very hard through tough times and some are not alive to receive the money, so us getting it wouldn’t solve it. But Then again just looking around with my own 2 eyes, I just cannot find any justification for reparations for slavery. The other aforementioned things, I'd have no problems helping pay for that. I know a lot of people think it would drive us broke but I disagree. When you look at all the money we spend every year putting up toll roads, paying for congressional retirements and health care, putting up surveillance cameras, and with useless corporate welfare that goes into CEO pockets, I think it'd be easy to cut some things to provide for reparations to a lot of the families that were hurt from segregation and the Drug War. I really have a hard time believing that the average person in this country with fair skin has more slave owner blood in them than the average African American. African Americans are different than Africans. They are unique because quite simply, they were bred in with their Irish overseers and their English plantation owners. “Reverse Slavery” isn’t acceptable but we can find a way to let them know what we went through and the pain that was suffered. Some of them wouldn’t even feel any way from it because they didn’t physically feel it they would only feel emotional. Discrimination and prejudice are somewhat more subtle now, but that does not mean they have been eliminated.
ReplyDeleteI am not a big fan of any one group of people getting special teat ments but i think there should be an exeptance.One reason i oppose it is because if one group gets a then the cycle is repeated.The cycle is one group off people takes over another group then everyone becomes equal then the group off people that was enslaved would want special treat ments. There is also reasons why they should be given special privilages.One reason i say this is because Africans have done so much for us.They founded the creation of humans.( The first purpsed human was suggested to be of african decent).Then for the Europens to just come and take us africans like it is nothing and just divide us up like were just some property.I believe that we should at least get some privilages. But not the number of privilages that would cause more enslavement, war ,execcive disagree ment and other pysical altercations. I dont think we should get money as an apology for many reasons.One reason i say it is because whats done is done we cant continue to hold a grudge from 500 years ago.Also who is going to pay the africans money.the government laugh out loud they always claim their in debt so you know they are not going to give us money. Also people will false claim being african american just to get get the money.I think there should be no reverse racism or racism period. It is not acceptable because it causes problem and other pysical altercation .Racism is a real strong alive today. One way we can see it is is with the former president.George Bush was openly racist but he did how signes. One way is he didnt warn the area the was affected by hurricane katrina this area was the "bad or black" parts of new orleanes.Also racism is alive but it is getting tougher to see because less poeple are being less openly racist.Inconclusion people should and shouldnt be given special treatments.Also that African Americans shouldnt get money as a reparations for rcism.
ReplyDeleteI believe that blacks should have special treatment because in history we went through so much of things in the past that whites couldn’t have even imagined. For the fact that we learn about the history and our ancestors and how they had to survive from how it was very different from they was we are treated today. It less things that goes on now from back then. It more things that African had to face in the past. I mean I would say pay our African brothers money because money isn’t noting. Money wouldn’t bring back the pain and the hurt from how we were treated from back then. Money wouldn’t bring back the ones that we lost in the past who may be our mother, father, or sister or bothers who we lost. Money is use for other things such as food clothes and what not. But to say giving money back that just crazy I wouldn’t of excepted it unless I was poor as a black person. I rather be treated as equal as the whites was and don’t see us as these type of people who are monster. I do believe in reverse racism because such as people change racism can change for us. Racism wouldn’t have so much of negative effect on us. Racism is a problem in today society because in some part of the states racism does exist up to this day. People such as whites or any color that it lighter than blacks is stilling going on today. I mean so much is happen to us. You see whites police beating up blacks for what reason we don’t know. Most of them do get away with it. At times it not easy for us because some whites might still want that past to still com around. In today society we want that to change and everyone to be equal. People just see things differently from how we blacks do. I don’t know what else to say but it wouldn’t change when I said that some racism do happen in some part of the states but who knows it could be worse than this today.
ReplyDeleteBLACKS SHOULD HAVE SPECIAL TREATMENT BECAUSE IF YOU LOOK BACK AND KNOW THE KNOWLEDGE OF WHAT BLACKS HAVE BEEN THROUGH YOU WOULD SAY THE SAME AT LEAST I GUESS. BUT BLACKS SHOULD AT LEAST GET A RETURN IN FAVOR OF WHAT THEY WORKED FOR AND HOW THEY GOT TREATED FOR EXAMPLE THEY SUFFERED THROUGH THE HOT SLAVE SHIT WITH OTHER BLACKS NO ROOM SPACE GETTING BEATEN FOR NO REASON THERE WASNT ANYTHING THEY COULD HAVE DONE.EVEN THOUGH THEY TRYED TO DO SOMETHING THEY COULDNT THEY WOULD SUFFER OR THEY HADD A CHOICE JUMP INTO THE OCEAN AND DIE OR SUFFER UNTIL THE WHITES SAY SO.IT DOSENT MATTER IF THERE IS RACISM BECAUSE EITHER WAY WE ALL ENDED UP AT THE SAME PLACE EVERYONE IS MIXXED AND EITHER WE GET ALONG OR NOT WE STILL HAVE TO RESPECT EACH OTHER AND MANAGE WHAT WE HAVE.
ReplyDeleteConsidering the fact that a whole race of people were stolen from their homeland and disconnected from their ancestors so they could work in a foreign land where they were hated and oppressed, I think blacks do deserve some type of special treatment. But I don’t think money would work because the money wouldn’t be going to any of the people who were actually slaves, Also if this was to happen many European nations, including the United States and other nations who profited from slavery would go broke and the last reason is there are new African-Americans are born everyday so how much money would a person receive? Additionally whether we realize it or not, nothing about the ideal African - American is original, not his name, his religion, his language or even some of his everyday lifestyle. Because of these years of oppression and hatred some blacks feel that it maybe right to reverse the roles of racism; In my opinion this is ignorant and will only further separate us as humans and prevent us from moving forward. Hate does not stop by adding more hate. Even though I don’t agree with reverse racism I understand why people commit these acts. It is only natural for you to want someone to feel what you feel when you feel disrespected or your feelings get hurt. But it is because this that racism still exist in 2010. I think that as long as people continue to make judgments against other s because of race or cultural misunderstandings racism will flourish to new heights. Racism is a huge problem in our world because all racism does is spread hatred. One of the most important steps we all need to take to solving this problem is to see others as human beings before we classify them as black white, Hispanics, etc . When we can do this humans will be powerful beyond measure, we can all learn from each other and we as humans have all made contributions to the world.
ReplyDeleteI believe that us as black people we could have special treatment because if you like back at the slavery days the didn't care about us as a humanized we treat us like a piece of propertied and we did not deserve it that was the worst thing in american history so yes i think we deserve something for all the years and years we suffered and i believe we do have acknowledgement already because we are all you hear about in classes and on television as a group i believe we had to go troughs that so we can be knowing as the best people on earth and no i dont believe the white should go troughs it because thats all being what they want you to be one of them the whites did that because they didn't no how to show they emotions so they toke it out on us they thought they was powerful but look as us now we are in most of the big businesses so in the long run we benefited from this problem im not saying its good they it happen but if it didn't happen what would we be were would we and now you is so white cops talking to the youth like we are in the slave times so thats steal a problem in some place but as far its not a big problem ,,,,,,,,,
ReplyDeleteI feel out of all the pain ans suffering that black people have been threw,all the killinq,beating and being seperated from there family there is not enough money in the world to repay for that. I also feel that every black person should not recive money because majority of the people that had to deal with racism are dead so they not getting anything out of it. What should happen is that people today to respect what they did for us and how they gave away there life for our freedom.Money does not resolve everything.I feel it makes no since to attemp reverse racism against whites because what points does that prove.Even though there are still some whites direspecting colored people it makes no since start this all over again.In my eyes i feel we one because black people have freedom today and they are not being used as anybody slave so thats how it should stay.
ReplyDeleteI THINK TWO WRONGS DON’T MAKE A RIGHT WHITES TREATING AFRICAN AMERICANS LIKE THEY ARE LESS THE SAME THING TO THE WHITES IS WRONG TO. AFRICAN AMERICANS SHOULKD GET SOME TYPE OF PAYMENT FOR ALL THE WORK THEY HAVE DONE BECAUSE THE JEWIS GOT PAYMENT FOR BEING IN THE HOLLACOST. YES EVERYONE SHOULD LEARN ABOUT SLAVERY BECAUSE LEARNING YOU’RE HISTORY WILL CHANGE THE FUTURE. AFRICAN AMERICANS HAVE COME A LONG WAY BECAUSE THEY DO NOT HAVE TO DEAL WITH SLAVERY OR RACISM. TREATING WHITES LIKE THEY TOUGHT US AFICAN AMERICANS DOES NOT CHANGE THE FACT THE WAY THEY HAD US IN SLAVE SHIPS ND KILLING OUR AFRICAN ANCESTORS.
